NAACP honors 12 today

Michael Atkins is scheduled to receive the Freedom Award today from the Syracuse/Onondaga National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The NAACP will give awards to two businesses and 10 people at its 29th annual Freedom Award Banquet. Atkins' community work include a leadership role in the Southeast Gateway Community Redevelopment Corp.,and former service as a Syracuse Common Councilor. Other awards scheduled to be made include:
Large Business Recognition Award: Syracuse Community Health Center
Small Business Recognition Award: Thomas's Kitchen'
Recognition Award: Steven Williams and Elaine Malone
Community Service Award: Beth Broadway, Barrie Gewanter, Linda Hall, Tanika Jones, Frank Malfitano and Jorge Martinez.
