New York state is pumping $1.87 million into the Syracuse Community Health Center's School Based Health Center program, state Sen. John DeFrancisco, R-Syracuse, announced Thursday.
The money comes as part of a $280 million in health care grants announced by Gov. David Paterson. School centers provide primary and preventive medical are, as well as dental and mental health services, to children who might otherwise not be able to see a doctor.
Under the same grant program, Oswego Hospital received $14.4 million to refurbish its emergency department, while the Family Health Network of Central New York received $1.425 million to expand and rehabilitate the Moravia and Cortland Health Centers.
"I am very pleased that the Syracuse Community Health Center will receive this significant grant that represents a meaningful investment to help improve access to health care within the Syracuse City School District and ensure that students receive convenient and quality care."
